Read Psalm 5:11-12
But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. 12 Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favour as with a shield.
In contrast to those who have turned away from God there are those who take refuge in Him and those people rejoice continually. Taking refuge puts the focus directly on the Lord as the King and those who take refuge in the King are markedly different from enemies who know only ruin/destruction, misery and no peace. Those who take refuge are overwhelmed with joy as they anticipate being covered by the King’s protection that enables them to love his name (representing his character) and to exalt in him. This is possible because the Lord covers them with his favour in the same way as a warrior is protected by a shield. As you pray be conscious that the Lord is listening and although you may not always be aware he is protecting you. The Holy Spirit confirms his presence/blessing in your life; he is listening even when joy seems far away.
