Read Psalm 4:3-5
3 But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself;the Lord hears when I call to him.4 Be angry, and do not sin;ponder in your own hearts on your beds and be silent. Selah5 Offer right sacrifices and put your trust in the Lord
How confident are you that God hears you when you pray? David seems to have absolute confidence, why, because God has ‘set apart the godly for himself’. The idea evokes New testament themes of God’s commitment to followers of Jesus and are worthy of deep reflection. ‘Right sacrifices’ (see Ps. 51) are sacrifices that come out of a right relationship with Yahweh and arise only as a result of trust in the Lord; in New Testament terms in Jesus’ sacrifice for us. God hears those who trust Him, a truth emphasised in Prov 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. God has heard we can be confident of he is caring for us irrespective of our circumstances: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose”. (Rom 8:28).
