Read Isaiah 6:8-10
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’
And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’
9 He said, ‘Go and tell this people:
‘“Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
be ever seeing, but never perceiving.”
10 Make the heart of this people calloused;
make their ears dull
and close their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.’” (NIVUK)
Humanity, even many who claim to know God, is rather hard of hearing. How familiar is it to listen to a conversation where it is very clear what one person is asking but equally clear the other has not heard a word that was said? Isaiah learns that we are all people who fail to hear what is said. We are all hard of spiritual hearing.
How does one cure spiritual deafness? Spend time with Jesus. He will explain things in a way we can hear. He will give us ‘ears to hear’. Spend time today reading Mark 4:1-34, listen closely to His words, and turn and be healed.
