Saturday 19th April
Read Mark 16:1-4
“When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb 3 and they asked each other, ‘Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?’ 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.” (NIVUK)
It is reassuring just how often we read about followers of Jesus with simply no expectation that He would rise. This despite Him repeatedly saying that He would and all the things that He did! After the Sabbath we read of the three women simply heading to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body. Fully expecting it to be there. Wondering how they were going to get in because there would be no one around at that hour to open the tomb. These are people just like us. There is nothing credulous about them. Like everyone else they knew dead people stayed dead. It is immensely reassuring that people just like us were convinced. Death could be defeated.
