Friday 14th March
Read 1 Thessalonians 5:4-5
“But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. 5 You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.” (NIVUK)
Paul has an amazing way with words. Whilst his letters are littered with negative entreaties to avoid sin they are matched with positive exhortations to live in the light. Drawing upon his reference to the ‘day’ of the Lord he reminds the believers that they are ready for that day. They operate in sunshine and light so Jesus’ return can’t be unexpected. The return of Jesus is not something to fear it is something to long for.
Rarely do we think that those around us live in darkness. We see them going about their business but don’t consider them benighted. We have lost the skill to view life and love from the perspective of the return of Jesus. Would we live differently if we reflected on Jesus’ return each day as light pours into the room?
