Saturday 14th December
Read Revelation 21:6-8
“He said to me: ‘It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practise magic arts, the idolaters and all liars – they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulphur. This is the second death.’” (NIVUK)
So many echoes from the life of Jesus ring through these verses. The cry from the cross that ‘It is done’. A cry which formed the basis upon which living water could be freely offered to all who call upon His name. A flow which sprang from his side when He was pierced.
We celebrate at Christmas Jesus’ descent from heaven to earth, the beginning of the story that ended with a pierced side upon a cross. The cross that looked like the ultimate defeat was in fact the greatest victory. In dying, Jesus won for Himself a people who would trust in His name and inherit life. It was ‘done’ perfectly.
Christmas and Easter, the Beginning and the End.
