“For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.” (Psalm 139:13-16) (NIVUK)
If we say someone is creative, we usually mean that they are imaginative, produce original and unique work, and have innovative ideas. Our Creator God is ‘creative’ in the true sense of the word. He skillfully and imaginatively crafted the entire universe, from its immeasurable vastness to its smallest detail. Likewise, he has formed us – each one unique, skillfully wrought and totally known.
Not only that, but he knew us before we were even formed (“before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart” (Jeremiah 1:5) (NIVUK), and knows the number of our days (v.16) and the contents of each one. Alongside our every thought and action (vs, 2-4,23), he knows our every heartbeat, every cell in our bodies, and every strength and weakness our body contains. Truly, we are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’!
“Your works are wonderful, I know that full well!” (v.14 NIVUK)
