Read Matthew 7:7-8
“‘Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (NIVUK)
What exactly are we to persistently pray for? What should we be chasing so passionately each and every day? Perhaps Jesus’ final prayer provides some clues as to what is worth such persistence.
“‘Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. 25 ‘Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.’” (John 17:24-26) (NIVUK)
We should seek God’s glory, we should seek to know God fully and we should seek to pour out the love of God into the world.
“As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
8 By day the Lord directs his love,
at night his song is with me –
a prayer to the God of my life.” (Psalm 42:1-2, 8) (NIVUK)
