Read 1 Peter 1:3-5
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.” (NIVUK)
For those who are suffering these words bring comfort and hope. Peter knows that the resurrection of Jesus changes everything. We are all now reborn with life from above – and because it is life from above it is secure and untouchable by the vicissitudes of life on earth. There is nothing on earth that can compare with that certainty. The natural processes of decay will destroy anything we put our trust in. But Peter wants his readers to know the sure and certain hope won for them by Jesus’ resurrection.
The only sensible response is praise.
