Read Jude 3
“Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.” (NIVUK)
Jude saw it necessary to write to this church. Why? Because the church had possibly grown lax in how it handled the truth. Maybe there were some iffy teachings they let slide, then a few more—until there was more error than truth.
Whatever the case, we can learn from their mistakes. We cannot blindly accept everything we hear in church. We trust our teachers to bring the truth, but they also trust us to keep them accountable.
How can we do that? By listening to the Spirit and knowing God’s Word. If something doesn’t sound right, take time to read, pray, and reflect. Then gently and wisely speak up if needed.
