Saturday 28th October
Read John 8:43-44
“Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (NIVUK)
The continuous weaving of the creation narrative through the gospel of John continues. Lying and murderous. The two key character attributes of the enemy. By deceiving humanity at the beginning through a lie, he sentenced them to death. Words can be incredibly dangerous.
They can’t hear what Jesus is saying because He is speaking a language foreign to them – He speaks truth. The only language they understand is their native tongue – lies. We don’t realise it at the time, but when we believe we begin to learn a new language whilst still speaking our native tongue disturbingly fluently.
“…no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.” (James 3:8-9) (NIVUK)
Spend some time this morning in praise and seek wisdom to speak your new language fluently.
