Matthew 6:28-30
“‘And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you – you of little faith?” (NIVUK)
Before we consider why Jesus considers concern about what we wear to be a mark of little faith tomorrow, let us today simply revel in the picture Jesus paints of the wonder of creation. Jesus is describing a wildflower meadow and uses it as a teaching tool! The ephemeral carpet of spectacular blooms across the rangeland are described as ‘clothes’ for the grass of the field. What a simply beautiful image. There is joy simply in meditating on such things. Enough joy for today at least.
