Saturday 2nd March
Read Matthew 5:14-16
“‘You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (NIVUK)
For some, light may simply be that by which others see. An external, objective revelatory force. But Jesus makes clear that light does not consist merely of persuasive arguments or the illumination of darkness. When good deeds are done the faithful promise of God to redeem and save the world is fulfilled. Light is not true light unless it results in action. Light manifests practically through the people of God, effecting the work of God for the purposes and glory of God as they abide in Him.
