Monday 22nd September
Read Philemon 1:1-3
“Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother,
To Philemon our dear friend and fellow worker – 2 also to Apphia our sister and Archippus our fellow soldier – and to the church that meets in your home:
3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (NIVUK)
Right off the bat, Paul sets expectations in this short letter. He reminds the readers that he is a prisoner for the Lord, he reminds them of the fact that Timothy, though he is young, is a brother in Christ and has authority. On the flip side He also extends blessings to the church that met in Philemons house, to Philemon a fellow co-worker, Apphia their sister in Christ and to Archippus as a fellow soldier for the Lord. If Paul was writing to your church, who would he mention by name? Would he mention you?
