Sunday 19th November
“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:3-6)
Do you have memories of Christian friends or those that you saw come to know Jesus and grow while they were in fellowship, working side by side to be salt and light in your community? Do such memories bring you joy and prompt you to pray? How often do you pray for these people? It seems that memories of the Philippians brought Paul great joy which prompted prayer. His certainty of God at work in their lives is part of his prayer for them but also, at least in my mind, he reveals God has answered his prayer. There is no doubt that we all need the support of people praying for us, that we will continue to be faithful and ready for when Christ returns – as Paul says a little later in this letter “and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Let’s make sure we are praying for Christian sisters and brothers that they will be ready to welcome their Saviour.
