Read 2 Timothy 4:6-8
“For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” (NIVUK)
As Paul nears the end of his ministry and life, having suffered and fought for the faith, he looks forward to what is coming and exhorts Timothy to ‘preach the word’.
What similarities (and differences) can you see in Peter’s words to the leaders in churches to which he is writing?
“To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: 2 be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them – not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.” (1 Peter 5:1-4) (NIVUK)
Do you reflect on such things yourself?
