Sunday 25th May
Read Romans 12:1
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship.” (NIVUK)
The sacrificial system, thirty-four times, speaks of the offerings of God’s people as set apart and holy and rising up as an aroma pleasing to the Lord. When we read Paul’s exhortation to the Roman believers to offer their bodies, use all their senses, as a living sacrifice then we are supposed to see the ancient practices transformed into active service.
The sacrifices rose as a pleasing aroma to signal the devotion of God’s people to Him. They are an expression of love in response to His mercy. Their worship was embodied in the sacrifice. Paul urges the Roman believers, and us many centuries later, to fully embody worship too. Our lives are to rise like prayers into the presence of our Lord.
