Friday 5th December
Read 3 John 9-10
“I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not welcome us. 10 So when I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, spreading malicious nonsense about us. Not satisfied with that, he even refuses to welcome other believers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.” (NIVUK)
Diotrephes is one of the few people specifically called out in the Bible as not being a person after God’s own heart. It takes a very conceited and self important person to ignore and not receive a disciple of Jesus, let alone the one closest to Jesus. Why then did he do this, because he wanted to be the most important person in the room. We read in Colossians that “He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent.” In light of this do we need to take a step back and let Christ have the glory in our lives?
