On my knees in awe?
CS Lewis in Letters to Malcolm (p78) says The soul that has once been waked, or stung, or up-lifted by the desire of God, will inevitably (I think) awake to the fear of losing Him.
I often ask myself what motivates me to pray? It seems to me Jesus’ teaching in Matthew (Lord’s prayer) suggests that the motivation is not about our immediate need but about relationship and I can really relate to C S Lewis’ comment about the ‘fear of losing Him’. It is that desire to bow before my Creator in awe and wonder knowing Him as my Father that is the first and foremost motivation for me to pray daily (hopefully constantly). If I know and trust my Father then, as His child I express my love and desire for closeness but also tell Him of my concerns and needs because I know he cares.
