Monday 29th January
Read 2 Timothy 2:14-17a
“Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarrelling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene.” (NIVUK)
Who hasn’t resolved to ‘be better’ and not get caught up in gossip and pointless arguments only to immediately begin just such a conversation? Who then ends up ashamed of themselves? How can we do our best when we are beset by weakness?
Paul would encourage us to speak other kinds of words to one another. ‘Keep reminding God’s people of these things’. (v14a). What things? The good news about Jesus. His faithfulness and the hope that follows from that faithfulness (v11-13). There is eternal value in reflecting on who Jesus is and what He has done. Every day. Paul would have us talk to each other about it constantly, remind each other of the Jesus every day.
A challenge for the week then?
