Friday 13th December
Read Revelation 21:5
“He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’” (NIVUK)
God speaks. The authority with which He speaks is unquestionable. He declares that He will make all things new, and because He has declared it, it is certain. The context for these words is the future, where bodies are restored and perfected (v4). Yet there is a sense in which this promise has already been fulfilled.
Paul wrote to a church that tended to think these promises have been fully realised here and now – and he sought to warn them that there remains work to be done – yet he can still declare that in Christ, that work has truly begun within us.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17) (NIVUK)
These trustworthy and true words form the basis of the exhortation to live better lives. Lives that match the reality that will one day be fully revealed in us but began when we put our faith in Jesus.
